Every year or so Etsy adjusts its fees, and 2026's change is a quiet one — which is exactly why it's worth reading about. The fees everyone watches (the 6.5% transaction fee, the $0.20 listing fee, payment processing) did not change. The one that moved is the fee almost nobody budgets for: the regulatory operating fee. And in a few countries it didn't nudge up — it jumped.
What changed on June 22, 2026
Etsy raised the regulatory operating fee in several European markets. This is a percentage Etsy charges on the total order — item + shipping + personalization — in specific countries, to cover local regulatory and digital-services-tax costs. The new rates:
- United Kingdom: 0.32% → 0.48%
- France: 0.47% → 1.14% (more than doubled)
- Italy: 0.32% → 0.80%
- Spain: 0.72% → 0.88%
If your bank is in one of these countries, this fee is already coming out of every payout since June 22. If it isn't, this specific change doesn't touch you — but the regulatory fee itself still exists in other markets (Canada, Türkiye and more), and history says it's the line most likely to move again next year.
What did NOT change
Worth stating plainly, because rumors travel faster than facts:
- Transaction fee — still 6.5% of the total order.
- Listing fee — still $0.20 per item, renewed on every sale.
- Payment processing — unchanged (US 3% + $0.25; UK 4% + £0.20; most of the EU 4% + €0.30; Türkiye 6.5% + 14 TRY).
- Offsite Ads — still 15% (or 12% once you pass $10k in trailing-year sales).
How much does the increase actually cost?
On its own, not much — that's the trap. Take a French seller with a €40 order. The regulatory fee went from €0.19 to €0.46, so about 27 cents more on that sale. On a busy month of 200 orders, that's roughly €54 you weren't paying in May. Small per order, real per month.
The bigger point is that this fee compounds on top of everything else, and — like the other fees — many countries then charge VAT on the fee. A UK seller who isn't VAT-registered pays 20% VAT on the regulatory fee too, so a "0.48%" line is really closer to 0.58% in effect. None of this shows up in a generic fee calculator that only models the 6.5%.
What to do about it
Nothing dramatic — just make sure your prices and your profit math use the current number, not last year's. If you priced your products against a 0.32% regulatory fee and a spreadsheet you built in 2025, your margins are quietly a little thinner than they read. Re-check any product with a slim margin, especially low-price, high-volume items where every fixed and percentage fee bites hardest.
You can run a single sale through the current rates — regulatory fee and currency conversion included, not just the headline 6.5% — with our free Etsy fee calculator.
The catch with any fee update
Published rates tell you what Etsy should charge. Your real bill differs — because of refunds, which orders got Offsite Ads, exact processing amounts, and the VAT-on-fees that only your own payment ledger shows. Reading a fee-change post gets your prices right; it doesn't tell you what Etsy actually took last month. That's the gap Seller Profit Lens fills: it connects to your shop read-only and reads the fees Etsy actually charged — regulatory fee and VAT included — per product, to the cent, then reconciles to Etsy's own totals so the numbers always match. It was built for the non-US, VAT-paying sellers this change hits hardest. It's in free beta now. Join the waitlist →
