If you've searched "how much does Etsy take," you've probably seen the answer "6.5%." That number is real — but it's only one of several fees, and it's why so many sellers feel like their payout is smaller than it should be. Here's the honest, complete answer.
The quick answer
For a typical US seller, Etsy keeps roughly 10–15% of each sale once you add the main fees together. For sellers outside the US, it's often higher — sometimes over 30% on a small order — because of extra fees that only apply internationally.
Where that percentage comes from
- Transaction fee — 6.5% of item + shipping.
- Payment processing — a percentage plus a fixed fee, and it depends on your country (3% + $0.25 in the US; 6.5% + 14 TRY in Türkiye).
- Listing fee — $0.20 per item, renewed on each sale.
- Offsite Ads — 12–15%, but only when the sale came from an Etsy-placed ad.
- Regulatory + currency + VAT-on-fees — smaller charges that mostly hit non-US sellers and are almost always left out of quick answers.
Why "6.5%" is misleading
Quoting only the transaction fee makes Etsy sound cheaper than it is. On a $20 item with $5 shipping, the 6.5% is $1.63 — but payment processing, the listing fee and (if applicable) Offsite Ads can easily double or triple the real cut. And none of that includes your costs.
